Pacewon & Mr. Green

I'm amazed at how Pacewon slipped my mind after all this time. I'm not really proud to admit that but I have to be true.

My amnesia thing started as far back as the mid-late 90s. I heard him for the first time on The Fugees' Cowboys and barely pieced together he was the one that recorded I Declare War. I didn't hear I Declare War enough to get tired of it and not enough for it to really stick in my head.

One of my most distinct memories was being in a car on a late 1990s Friday night just before entering Montreal's Blizzarts. WeFunk played I Declare War and it clicked with me. I never forgot that song since.

I have since taken care of the Pacewon potholes in my collection. I played I Declare War very early upon my return to community radio a few years back. I found the Ruffhouse Records Greatest Hits collection VHS & CD and finally saw the video to the song.

If I had come across a Pacewon full-length CD or vinyl, I would have bought it. The closest I could settle for were two 12" singles. For the little I heard of him, I admired his lyrics & delivery and in the back of my mind hoped to find more of his music.

I've been somewhat in touch with DJ/producer Mr. Green and told him how much of a Pacewon fan I was.

For someone that doesn’t listen to hip hop like he used to in the past, Pacewon is one of my favourite MCs. I blogged about and gave Pacewon a small radio show tribute on The Suite Delight.

This is as good a time as any to revisit and rediscover Pacewon. I am thrilled Twitter provides a means for him to know when I play his music on my show.
