K-os

I made any attempt to catch any K-os live show, no matter how brief the notice, because it was worth the time.

He has over half a dozen albums worth of material to explore. 

Man I Used To Be is my favorite K-os song because I learned how happy I am when I hear it.

Anyone knowledgeable about K-os knows that each of his albums from Exit to Black on Blonde is colored green, yellow, blue, red, purple, black and blonde.  That makes me understand how much
K-os has accomplished during this past decade. 

 If anyone asked me if I would want to see K-os live again or listen to a new album, the answer is Yes!

Michie Mee

 

If the term legend ever was deserved and applied to an MC, it would be fitting for Michie Mee.

She is the first Canadian MC to make an impact in the United States before Drake, Kardinal Offishall or even Maestro Fresh-Wes.

The Basement Flavor compilation released on First Priority Music featured two of the pioneer’s singles. I was in high school when the On This Mic/Victory is Calling 12” single was circulating and sought-after by the DJs and collectors of the day. Either song could wreck a party. With the co-sign of lady label mate MC Lyte at the beginning of Victory is Calling, Michie Mee and Canada were indeed victorious.

Like Backbone and Drop the Needle, Michie Mee’s singles destroyed high school dance floors and parties. At that time, those songs and artists being Canadian were after-thoughts. Now, they are at the forefront of our minds.

It was almost yesterday that Michie Mee was inducted into the Stylus DJ Awards Hall of Fame.  Not too long ago, I learned that Michie Mee will be getting her own stamp along with fellow Canadian hip hop icon Maestro Fresh-Wes.

Congratulations again to Michie Mee for yet another crowning career achievement.

Canadian Hip Hop Showcase (December 2014)

As much as I am a Canadian, New York is my spiritual & cultural Mecca. 

As a teenager, I couldn't wait to go to the United States to bring back the latest hip hop music to rock and shock my peeps back home. All the while, I was barely aware there were a number of Canadian hip hop artists making music in nearly every province. 

With DJ E-Z Rock's passing, I got to thinking about how hip hop was my everything for most of my life and now neither is the same.   

Any good hip hop music in these days and times is a surprise to me.  When I learn the banger is Canadian content, I feel good to know good hip hop music is still being made and even better that it's homemade.

There may not be any more need for me to trek out of Montreal to get hip hop music anymore, local or otherwise, but there may be a need to showcase some of Canada's hip hop talents.
