The Zombies

Melanie Fiona’s Give It to Me Right owes a lot of its groove to The Zombies.

Years ago, I was at a record store doing some browsing and came across a Best of/Greatest Hits vinyl of The Zombies.

It did not have Time of the Season among its track listing! I placed that album right back in the racks.

It would be years later that I would learn Time of the Season was the last big hit for The Zombies.

Their singles She’s Not There and Tell Her No were recorded at the peak of the 1960s British Invasion.

No matter the season, Time of the Season is my iconic Zombies single.

Chris Clark

Chris Clark intrigued me from the moment I learned of her.

Upon my return to Concordia University's radio station in 2006, I was experimenting with rock, soul, funk, pop and world music from the 1960s & 1970s.  I was looking for any and all artists that were soulful in their rock or rock artists covering soul music.

I seek the unknown whenever I can and to learn of Chris Clark recording for Motown put me on the path of discovering what I could about her.

I contacted her and interviewed her on my radio show.

She autographed my copy of her Chris Clark: The Motown Collection 2CD set.

With all of these things I possess, I can't get next to one of her 1960s albums on vinyl while digging in the crates.

Thankfully there is that compilation of her recordings and more for all that may be die-hard or curious as I am.

There is no need to be curious.  Chris Clark's music will make its way onto upcoming DJ setlists and playlists.

DJ Solespin @ Mod Club Montreal (Bar de Courcelle)

History has a funny way of repeating itself.

Three years ago during the first day of the Puces Pop Record Fair, I was content just to be digging for treasure records.  That was until I heard treasured records being played by two DJs.

Soulful sounds of the 1960s (that I didn't know, had not heard or seen for that matter) burst through the speakers and the expected invitation for the pair to join me on The Suite Delight radio show followed.

Fast-forward to September 2015 and DJ Parka Pat heard my DJ set on the first day of the Puces Pop Record Fair.  An invitation for me to join him for his Mod Club Montreal night at Bar de Courcelle followed.

Check us out on April 23 at Bar de Courcelle (4685 Rue Notre-Dame Ouest, Montreal, Quebec) where I return for another frenzy of vintage 1960s soul, funk & rock on the decks spun on vinyl & 45's.
