In the last six years, I have seen things reach their finale in more ways than one.
I walk around Montreal and some parts of New York to see stores that I grew up visiting or shopping at closed or about to close. I especially noticed this trend over the last few years with local record stores closing on me.
Television shows ER, Corner Gas and even Guiding Light had series finales not too long ago. Susan Flannery’s character, Stephanie Forrester, was killed off of the show in 2012 after twenty years. The Montreal Mirror folded before I could achieve the goal of making them consider me worthy of the cover.
In the early summer 2012, I spoke with a local producer/DJ and asked why the monthly party he was associated with ended at a popular venue. His response was that it was best to end it on a high note than have it turn to a word that could in no way be associated with high note.
It is possible that I stubbornly want things to stay the same as a means of comfort.
When I decided to return to CJLO in 2006, I asked the head music director if the station had finally made its way onto the airwaves and he replied it hadn’t. After a brief moment of contemplation, I told him I still wanted to return. I resolved that it would be a great outlet for my creativity regardless of the obstacles associated with my decision.
The idea to create this blog came to me in 2008 after being inspired by the blog of a former local columnist and DJ. The logic was that if The Suite Delight blog developed a following than the readers would be inclined to tune in to CJLO for my radio show and possibly others.
I thought it best to once again become a music director for the station in 2009 after the position had been vacant for months. I witnessed two of my station peers walk up and receive awards at a New York conference of college radio stations for their work as music directors. I saw that as inspirational. I had been blessed to be in the company of two decorated music directors and had more than enough to study and learn from. The results were my being awarded the New York college radio conference 2010 Best Newcomer and a nomination in the same category as the station peer who was the previous year award recipient. After being the subject of a profile in Earshot/Exclaim Magazine, achieving my goal of being recognized by CMJ stands as my greatest triumph where music/media is concerned.
After resigning from music director in 2011, I transferred my energy into this blog and the radio show. The results were my learning in summer 2012 that The Suite Delight show was among the station’s most visited web pages and topped the list on some weeks. After months of disillusionment, that news was confirmation that my years of efforts were bearing fruit.
The consensus among CJLO management during a meeting in late 2012 was that The Suite Delight brand is strong and could benefit more from independently-produced podcasts. They seemed keen on promoting my final broadcast and podcast on its website.
CJLO prides itself in being a voice of the community. Over the last six years, I have been proud to present the voices and selections of a number of Montreal DJs, record collectors and music connoisseurs. They are listed below and thanked for being The Suite Delight guests and artists that have graced my show with their presence.
After spending most of the last six years trying to make people aware of my show and radio station, The Suite Delight blog and Facebook page will be naturally more active with the absence of the weekly broadcast on CJLO 1690AM.
My thanks to CJLO 1690AM for the providing me the opportunity to realize the childhood dream of following in the footsteps of my idols such as Dick Clark, Peter King and Casey Kasem. I aimed to provide Montreal, as well as the world, a listening experience unlike any other. I was able to achieve that and more over the last six years.
Unfortunately, the last broadcast of The Suite Delight on CJLO 1690AM was scheduled for March 30, 2013 but is now cancelled. My apologies go to those who may have been anticipating the final episode and even more so to the artists I had planned to play.

CKUT is the radio station that made me want to do what I do on radio to begin with. With the exception of recordings from radio stations of my cultural and spiritual home of New York, CKUT is the most influential radio station of my life.
For the last 2 years, I have been a contributor to Montreal’s iconic community radio station.
The Suite Delight has its projects centralized at CKUT. My blog has been a vessel to help educate, inform, enlighten and entertain Montreal. Any event, activity, happening associated to CKUT that I connect with has been written about here. It is my way of giving back to the station that in part made me who and what I am today.
I have been thrilled to achieve a long standing goal of joining some colleagues I have respected and admired as a member of the CKUT roster.

Mixcloud may have just given me the sign I've been looking for.
I reached for old school hio hop tracks for my May 13 episode of The Suite Delight when I couldn't return home to get my record bag before the radio broadcast.
In less than 2 weeks from the broadcast, Mixcloud sent me a message saying my May 13 episode of The Suite Delight is ranked 46th on their Old School Hip Hop chart.
That is reassuring and possibly leading me to a decision I was reluctant to take.
The Suite Delight playlists have been literally split in half between hip hop and eclectic music for the last year simply because I wanted to keep ties to hip hop music as well as explore other genres.
For as much as I have griped about, complained and criticized hip hop music, the playlists for the radio show hour will be heavily hip hop.
As of June 2014, I'll be putting more of my radio show focus on hip hop classics. One episode per month will feature sounds of new and old bands/artists unless The Suite Delight radio show ranks higher on Mixcloud's Old School Hip Hop category.
How ironic that I truly could and would honor my hip hop radio heroes like Marley Marl, DJ Red Alert, The Awesome 2, Funkmaster Flex and Montreal's Sound Supreme & Masters at Work.

One nation def mix Westrock has a tune out now watched the vid and was shocked as it's been so long it's called Lethal Injection. Like it.
