Top 10 Songs I Felt For Some Reason or Another 2008

1. Roots Manuva - Again & Again

I was moving more and more closer to RPM from hip hop around the time I discovered this song. Like K-os, Roots Manuva represents the bridge between the RPM world I was headed to and my hip hop roots. My interest in the Ninja Tune label coincided with the release of this great song and made me realize I was on the right track as far as musical direction was concerned. I believe this is is my favorite Roots Manuva song since Witness. The souns are so similar that it might as well be considered the Witness sequel. The chanting/rhyming, beats and horns blend perfectly and make me want to hear it Again & Again.

2. Chris Brown - Forever

I'm writing this in the post Rihanna/Chris Brown relationship era where Rihanna`s career is now rebounding and Chris Brown`s isn`t. Forever was one of my favorite songs of the year for many reasons. The upbeat tempo and overall positivity of the track was what popular culture needed at the time. The song established Chris Brown as the promised future of R&B. That unfortunately was all for naught when we learned he allegedly beat Rihanna, crippling his own career in the process.

3. Santogold - Shove It

4. T.I. - Whatever You Like

5. M.I.A. - Paper Planes

6. Alicia Keys - No One

7. The Rumble Strips - Time

8. Kenna - Say Goodbye To Love

9. The Charlatans - The Only One I Know

The Only One I Know
is the only song I know from The Charlatans. I’m open to suggestions for other songs by the band I should check out. I’m lucky we live in a YouTube era where I can see and hear their videos before my wait gets too long.

10. The Shocking Blue - Send Me A Postcard

Who would have thought the band that sang Venus originally would be so close to my heart? I have Mark Ronson to thank for that. The flame was lit from my first time hearing Send Me a Postcard. After two CDs and vinyl copies of their Venus album, the way I’ve added The Shocking Blue’s music to my collection is shocking.
